High Voltage
I don't know why it took me several years to figure out that AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" might do some major damage on a packed Hell dance floor. In any case, the awesome power chords and thunderous drum beat were only the beginning of last night's madness. As the end of the song fell apart into Bon Scott's "I'm going downnnn....." and that climactic squall of guitar noise, we somehow blew a fuse and wound up shorting a good deal of the electrical outlets on the back wall of Hell. Flipping the circuit breakers didn't help, so it took a good 10 minutes to first figure out what was going on and then reroute some extension cords in order to power the DJ equipment back up. A minor setback, sure, but what absolutely made my evening was the fact that the crazy crowd did not leave or get pissed off or even complain. People totally kept the energy level going by collectively chanting things like "THREE SIX MAFIA!! THREE SIX MAFIA!!" and that classic who-needs-utilities-anyway lyric, "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire....we don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn!!!".
Needless to say, as soon as we got our power back I played the big 2005 hit from everyone's favorite Oscar winners. And the Academy Award for Best Supporting Crowd goes to....all you fly people who really kept the juice flowing last night!! Three 6 would've been way proud.
