Rappin' Dick

How Dick Cheney Could Just Kill A ManShortly after news broke about Harry Whittington's birdshot-induced heart attack last week, I emailed a certain Cyrus Hill bandmate of mine and suggested that he record a Dick Cheney rap over the "How I Could Just Kill A Man" instrumental. Given how many times we listened to that "Kill A Man" beat during those three weeks after Thanksgiving, I wasn't really that surprised when Ricky Dollars emailed me back and said he had already thought of the exact same thing! Better yet, the boy actually managed to execute the idea in practically Legendary KO-like time, so go check out his MySpace page to listen to and/or download "How Dick Cheney Could Just Kill A Man". One pellet-sized caveat: the song's got a strange Cheney-imitating first-person thing going on, which kinda creeps me out while also reminding me of Rappin' Duke. Da-haaah, da-haaah....da hah-haah hah-hah haaaa!

In related news, the genius who produced the aforementioned "Tramp"-sampling classic actually hits the Cat's Cradle this Saturday night alongside a first-string Wu-Tang MC. I mean, is there a full-on Cypress Hill revival around the corner or what?!?

More on the Mixtape

Major thanks to everyone who came out to the Hell party last night. If you didn't manage to get a copy of the Disco Inferno mixtape, you can mail order one from me for a mere seven bucks. The full mixtape tracklisting and a Paypal mail-order button are now available here. There are also a small number of copies for sale at CD Alley....and hopefully we'll still have some leftovers when the next Hell party rolls around on March 11th.

As promised, here's another mixtape "title cut", so to speak:

"Disco Inferno"/"Lady Don't Tek No" blend (4.90 MB)

Disco Inferno 12-inch coverYeah, this mixtape (over)uses the "Disco Inferno" 12-inch the way the Plains Indians used the buffalo. No single part going to waste...or something like that.

The awesome handclappy funk beat on this remix comes from "Lady Don't Tek No" by Latyrx. Though technically one might say that the beat itself originates from "Betcha Got A Dude On the Side" by Star Quality & Class, since "Lady Don't Tek No" producer DJ Shadow more or less took the "Betcha" instrumental, slowed it down a bit, and fattened up the bottom end.

When I used to DJ at The Federal, one of the friendlier waitresses would request "Lady Don't Tek No" almost every week that she was working. I think that just might be my favorite repeat request ever! Looks like the Muzapper's Mixes and Muzapper's Remixes EPs are way out of print (whoa, $44.75 and $89.51 for the CD on Amazon Marketplace?!?!), but the hot word-filled version of "Lady Don't Tek No" is still available on the much more reasonably priced Solesides' Greatest Bumps.

I'm On The Highway To Hell, It's Saturday Night!

Ricky DollarsWhen Ricky Dollars asked me if I had a copy of the "Disco Inferno" instrumental back in November, I had no idea that he was planning to bless the mic with an ode to Hell's similarly titled dance party. But that's just what our boy did! So now Hell's monthly throwdown has itself a little anthem:

Ricky Dollars - "Disco Inferno" (4.76 MB)

Check out the mp3 above, or better yet, just come to Hell fairly early on Saturday night and pick up the whole damn mixtape. Don't worry, I refrained from shouting "EXCLUSIVE!!! NEW RICKY DOLLARS!!!" all over the top of the mixtape version.

I know I'm probably way biased because of this song's subject matter, but to my ears these are some of Ricky Dollars' hottest rhymes yet. Damn Rick, even your unofficial theme raps are super-official!

Disco Inferno - The Mixtape!

Disco Inferno Mixtape Cover

As I mentioned last Friday, there is an extra special reason to come fairly early-ish to this Saturday night's pre-Valentine's edition of Disco Inferno. And no, it's not just so that someone can give you a little candy heart with "CUTIE PIE" written on it...

While supplies last, we will be giving away FREE copies of "Disco Inferno - The Mixtape", a party-oriented megamix that has been painstakingly put together by yours truly. The mixtape is over an hour long and features portions of 35+ songs from four different decades...and it comes in an attractively screenprinted cardboard sleeve to boot. This particular edition is very limited, though, so see me in Hell early Saturday night if you want to cop one! I'll post a couple of the mixtape's "title cuts" here later in the week as a free sample.

Second Saturdays in '06!

Disco Inferno 2006

Now that we're already in the second month of '06, I guess it's time for me to step up the promotion for Disco Inferno and its new slot on the second Saturday of every month. That means no dancing in Hell this Saturday night...instead we will throw down the following Saturday (Februrary 11th). There will even be an extra special incentive to come early to this particular February party...more on that next week!
