WXYC's Best of 2005 Dance
You thought the year-end superlatives were over, but no....WXYC is putting on its "Best of 2005 Dance" tomorrow night at Wetlands Dancehall. This will be the station's third annual multi-genre year-in-review "Best Of..." Dance. About a year ago I explained the idea behind these dances while waxing nostalgic about the original 2003 throwdown. A few days after that I posted my setlist from the 2004 event.
So come out to Wetlands tomorrow night to hear the most danceable music of 2005 as chosen by me and four of my fellow XYCers. There will probably be a couple of burners from the girl on the flyer, of course....and plenty of hip-hop jamz that you're more likely to hear on K 97.5 than WXYC 89.3. But there will also be danceable alt-rock/indie tunes, solo pop star smashes, B-more club and baile funk, crazy remixes, and more. Cover charge is five bucks in honor of the year that we just laid to rest.

dude: you absolutely killed that shit last night. phenomenal selection and sequencing. that reggaeton-esque song right before 'pon de replay'--riDICulous.
of course, you could have played 50 minutes of beethoven followed by 'lazy sunday' and i would have been comparably happy. i had feared i'd never hear it on a dancefloor.
but props for rocking the entire hour!

Thanks a lot man...I definitely appreciate y'all staying out late on a weeknight. The song before "Pon de Replay" was "The Master Has Come Back" by Damian Marley...quite a jam, they should've released that as a second single after "Jamrock" blew up. That song mixes really well with the "Outta Control" beat, too....er, well, at least it would've if a few CD cases hadn't been falling off the ledge of the DJ booth at a very inopportune time.....'doh!
Here's my full setlist in case there were any other tracks you or anyone else wanted to check out/download:
- Afrodisiac Sound System - "Revolution"
- Os Tchutchucos - "Chapa Quente" (from Rio Baile Funk)
- Spankrock - "Put That Pussy On Me"
- Rod Lee - "Dance My Pain Away"
- Missy Elliott (w/ Ciara, Fatman Scoop) - "Lose Control"
- LCD Soundsystem - "Disco Infiltrator"
- Pharrell (w/ Gwen Stefani) - "Can I Have It Like That" (Chad Hugo's awesome Baltimore-club-style remix)
- M.I.A. - "10 Dollar"
- Ying Yang Twins & Pitbull - "Shake"
- The Juan Maclean - Give Me Every Little Thing (with extended beat intro from "Eric B. Deep Dub" remix)
- 50 Cent/Mobb Deep - "Outta Control" remix
- Damian Marley - "The Master Has Come Back"
- Rihanna - "Pon de Replay"
- Andy Samberg & Chris Parnell - "Lazy Sunday"
- Beck - "E-Pro"
- Diplo/Hollertronix - club remix of Ray Charles "I Got A Woman" + Kanye West "Gold Digger"
I wish there had been time to throw in a couple of other hot tracks by Hot Chip and Lady Sovereign....2005 was a pretty awesome year for really interesting and crazy uptempo dance jamz!

They have been playing that Diplo/Hollertronix mix on KEXP on my way home each day and I love it. Chloe and I have been doing some impressive car dancing.
Your box is in the mail.
