Branch Gallery's Grand (Re)Opening!

Branch Gallery officially shut the doors of its W. Weaver Street location at the very tail end of 2005. But Carrboro's loss is a double gain for downtown Durham. A new and much larger Branch re-opens tomorrow night at 401c Foster Street, just north of the Carolina Theatre. I went by the new gallery for the first time last night and it's an impressive space, with high vaulted ceilings and enormous white walls that should allow Branch to exhibit a lot more/bigger art.
Tomorrow's (grand) opening runs from 6 to 9 pm and features the work of Josh Abelow and Katy Clove. Abelow's portion of the show includes several graphite drawings like the one above and a bunch of awesome geometry-laden oil paintings, some of which are more than 7 feet tall. Clove's side of the gallery is full of beautifully intricate glass etchings, also very cool. I'll be in the back spinning some festive beats and other funky tunes of the sort that don't usually make it into my dancefloor-directed mixes. So drop by and get your weekend off to a good start. Durham, love yourself! The rest of the Triangle, come out and love your Bull City!
1/29 Update: There's a nice long article on the new Branch Gallery in today's News & Observer.
