Having spent a few years in WXYC management I've heard all of this a million times before. I'm happy that WXYC was the first and it is important to defend the claim but I think that it overlooks the important thing. All three of the stations that have a claim to being the first are non-profit college stations. The "market" had nothing to do with this innovation, it was all people who wanted to see if they could do it.
